So from the prompt go to the sysconfig directory, then edit the network file changing the hostname string inside the file and then reboot

cd /etc/sysconfig

nano network

hostname=mynewhostname.com

^ change to whatever your domain is and press CRTL O to Save.

Good luck!

Speeding up Drupal 7 - THIS WILL WORK!

Sat, 01/28/2012 - 16:29

If you google search for Drupal 7 being slow, you'll see a lot of people complaining that its slow. Do not believe the drupal die hards when they say that Drupal 7 is faster by default - IT IS A LIE AND THEY ARE MISLEADING MANY USERS. I AM A DIE HARD and for sure I found it ridiculously slow after a clean install and some added modules. I can tell you for a fact that Drupal 7 is slower than Drupal 6 on initial install with recommended settings.

However, I have found finally! (After about 1 month of set-back testing thinking that the problem was something to do with PHP and mySQL configs) I found that the reason for drupal's slowness with respect to the administration of your site is actually due to 3 modules:

1. Disable the Update Manager Module
2. Disable the Overlay Module
3. Disable the Toolbar Module

BAM! Save your settings and then when you want to access your administration pages visit your /admin example: www.yoursite.com/admin

I BET YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE.

Bruno Mars - It Will Rain

Tue, 01/24/2012 - 23:06

I was sure if Bruno Mars was really a good artist but this one won me over lol

If you ever leave me baby,
Leave some morphine at my door
‘Cause it would take a whole lot of medication
To realize what we used to have,
We don’t have it anymore.

There’s no religion that could save me
No matter how long my knees are on the floor
So keep in mind all the sacrifices I’m makin’
Will keep you by my side
Will keep you from walkin’ out the door.

[Chorus]
Cause there’ll be no sunlight
If I lose you, baby
There’ll be no clear skies
If I lose you, baby
Just like the clouds
My eyes will do the same, if you walk away
Everyday it will rain, rain, rain...

I’ll never be your mother’s favorite
Your daddy can’t even look me in the eye
Oooh if I was in their shoes, I’d be doing the same thing
Sayin there goes my little girl

Christina Perri - A Thousand Years

Tue, 01/24/2012 - 23:01

Wow I got goosebumps.... this is such a beautiful song! Reminds me of Sharlene :)

"A Thousand Years"

Heart beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

[Chorus:]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this

One step closer

[Chorus:]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you

Drupal Image Import problem [Solved]

Tue, 01/17/2012 - 14:11

Many of you know that I maintain websites for my hobby. Recently while I was working on WOLFC's website, I tried to import over 50 photos using the drupal image import module and constantly got the error "You are not authorized to view this page" even though I was logged in as the "super" administration with id = 1. Anyways, if you are having this same problem, it's probably due to your mysql settings believe it or not. I was able to rectify the problem by adding the following line to my /etc/my.cnf mysql settings file under the [mysqld] section within it:

max_allowed_packet = 32M

I bid you good luck!

FFMPEG install for CENTOS 5

Mon, 01/09/2012 - 01:06

I have tested this on CentOS 5.7 which is what I am currently running this RISHARDE.COM on.

So the first thing you need to do is get the RPM package for the RPMFORGE repository for YUM
http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/

For example, this server is a 32-bit server (using CENTOS version 5 -> el5) so I used the following rpm :
http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5....

Download the rpm using
wget http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5....

Install the RPM
rpm -U rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm

Now to verify that it can find the ffmpeg package do the following (this can take about 5 minutes)
yum list ffmpeg

Now do the actual install of ffmpeg using Yum
yum install ffmpeg

After you have finished the install, you probably should disable the rpmforge repo since it may be incompatible with kloxo etc (I'm not sure so I disable this in case)

Where did the idea of bridesmaids come from?

Fri, 01/06/2012 - 11:23

I research this on the internet when I had to make my speech, thought the info would be useful for any of you who would have to make a toast to the bridesmaids... unfortunately, I can't remember which website I got the info from:

MAID OF HONOUR
The maid of honor became an integral part when more planning and preparation was put into a wedding. A bride would ask her closest friend for advice and assistance, which developed into the role of the maid of honor, who was traditionally an unmarried female and had the title of "chief attendant."

BRIDESMAIDS
A custom once existed where maidens dressed similarly to the bride and accompany her as her protectors on her way to the groom's village. This would deflect spurned suitors from kidnapping the bride or from stealing her dowry. Roman law once required witnesses to come to weddings in order to confuse evil spirits as to the
identity of the bride and groom. This meant that female wedding attendants

One major bummer so far for the year... the life and death struggle continues...

Thu, 01/05/2012 - 20:53

Got some bad results with respect to my cholesterol today :( Started back on diet from today and began my first dose of Crestor, I guess its going to make me change the way I eat for good. Imagine in 2 months, it went back up after going down... I wonder if I can find the root cause and fix it... let's hope I can do this before its too late, my life actually depends on it :(

Stay good you guys, even the haters who probably want me dead... I wonder if this is part of God's plan?
Scary to think that He might not want me here...

DELL SUPPORT HAS TREMENDOUSLY DISAPPOINTED ME

Tue, 01/03/2012 - 20:46

Today one of my former colleagues had some problems with his DELL laptop so I decided to log into the online dell technical support chat. To my astonishment, the DELL technical support chat could offer me nothing more than - You need to call this number (XXXXXXX) and mention the express code since you are in the wrong queue. Apparently DELL sells inspiron laptops but can't support them. The inspiron laptop in question is a N5010, the second newest in the series of inspiron laptops. I will keep you all posted. So far, I've wasted over 1 hour of foreign calls... Don't think I'll be recommending a DELL again.

EMA, Noise Pollution and Religious Events

Sat, 12/31/2011 - 15:31

Yesterday my girlfriend told me a true story about a church that was warned by the EMA about the loudness of their Sunday services. Apparently some villagers complained about the Sunday services being too loud and an investigation was done by workers of the EMA who issued a warning to the Pastor of the church.

Now I understand that FAIR is FAIR... so I decided to read the ema's noise pollution act - which I must tell you is utterly boring (and wordy as most acts are suppose to be) when one has little time to spend reading. BUT IN ALL FAIRNESS, THE EMA DOES HAVE AN EXCELLENT WEBSITE OFFERING THE INFORMATION SO KUDS TO THE EMA FOR THAT. I was amazed to come across the following:

7. Sounds from the following activities are exempt from the
prescribed standards:
(a) religious events and activities without the use of sound
amplifying equipment when conducted between 6.00 a.m.
and 11.00 p.m. of the same day and of a duration of no more
than 5 hours;

Falling up - Escalates

Sat, 12/31/2011 - 08:49

This is everything that I wanted
Do you believe that I tried so hard to take it home
But never felt a single moment
Life has been a place where I've wandered
Moving slowly to understand what I can grasp
But understand that it's still not right

So come back to me (he's always waiting)

[Chorus]
I can't find it but maybe I'll cope
And can you hide it and never let go?
Come back to you, I only knew

Lies have covered all of the smiles
And wakened thoughts that have turned my heart
To face the wind
And then fall to where I know I'll fit, but you
Do you believe that I wanted
Something other than fallen hearts that just
Belong
To places where the bridges give in

Can you see what I felt when I told you

Why do car manufacturers keep control codes for BCMs a secret???

Thu, 12/29/2011 - 04:54

Why do car manufacturers keep control codes for BCMs a secret??? I am beginning to think that its a lack of insight... one can do so much to make people safer and make tasks easier if they could access the BCM of a car. What's even more strange is that people on the internet are claiming that in order to see all PIDS, you have to become a member of an organization and pay 5000-10000 US just to get access to the information.

That's really strange... Will keep you guys updated.

Failed Hack Attempts as of 14th December 2011

Wed, 12/14/2011 - 18:44

Just discovered this in my logs...there are at least 3 people who want to take over my website/computer box lol
Poor thing... they failed miserably...
One of the IP addresses is from Canada... do you believe that??? LOL
Strange thing is that a hack to my box wouldn't actually be a shocker for me, after all, its running code that wasn't written by me so anything can happen... its not like I have secret stuff on the box lol geez, get a life guys.

There's a minor glitch with rIRC but it still works... not a security problem I reassure you

Tue, 12/13/2011 - 14:51

I found recently a minor problem with rIRC as of the latest release 1.4.0. When you try to access the channels list, sometimes the application hangs - it is so uncool. The reason behind it is probably due to the thread spending time waiting on more responses where there probably isn't. This poses 2 problems, one the hang due to the wait... but secondly due to the wait, it won't go back to the main thread. So the solution? Well a new thread to do this and cater for no more data. So what's the problem? Problem is it won't be fixed until after exams... which is about 2-3 weeks from now!

So bear with me, there will be a bug fix update for rIRC 1.4.0 coming out soon
and subsequently an optimal update (which will take longer for me to optimize the code) in the upcoming month

Thanks and sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused!
