TNTSMS Version 10 - Under Construction
Welcome to TNTSMS.COM
TNTSMS.COM was initially started as sms.tftg.org, a spare-timed project in 2002 by The Freaks Techie Group founded by Mr. Anil Ali (a close friend of Risharde, the designer and developer of TNTSMS.COM). The domain was bought approximately 6 months later since it was the simplest and shortest name we could find at the point in time. The service provided many users with the ability to send sms messages to any TSTT cellular phones via TSTT's SMS Gateway. Unfortunately, the sms gateway was shut down and up to this day, we are not sure exactly why. We have heard rumours that it was due to abuse, or due to threatening messages but we're not 100% sure. We still believe its because TSTT would lose so much revenue from offering a free service that it made more sense to close it and let users pay for phone to phone SMS. In any event, it has crippled SMS communication / development to a large degree since the boundaries of SMS messaging could not be explored (for example, an sms message is limited to 160 characters but by a little coding on the website, one could make multiple sms messages etc).
In the past, Risharde has coded an application which connects to his cellular phone and integrates with the website using paid external SMS gateways (which has been rather expensive). Also to maintain a proper system for users to add credits didn't seem like a good solution because there's no easy way of receiving payments from users especially via systems such as paypal which do not allow Trinidad and Tobago users to accept money - another crippled service).
The future of FREE SMS seems grim and practically pointless as open gateways began to close like rapid fire. While SMS is an outstanding communication medium, profit and "perhaps" greed has destroyed the true potential of this wonderfully created system.
TNTSMS.COM closed down, literally, site and all, after there was no way to send SMS messages. While we hope that by a miracle, it can be revamped, this site has been relaunched by Risharde as a means of proof of concept on various SMS related ideas which he will work with in the future. While the service may bring about new features, it is unfortunate that some users in Trinidad and Tobago were quite insultive and aggressive towards the fact that Risharde did not continue the paid SMS system - we hope that the latter information provides some sort of explanation on why it was not possible.
We continue to hope that our nation will rise in wisedom and understanding.
